Topic: Linking tables Posted: 02 Nov 2009 at 11:38am
I am using 3-tables in a Crystal Report (XI). What is the best way to link these tables? Below is an example of the scenario:
Table1: WOREF, LOCATION, STATUS
Table2: WOREF, ORGCODE, PRIORITY
Table3: WOREF, CONTRACT, VENDOR
When I link these tables, is it better to link table 2 and 3 to table 1, or link table 3 to table 2, and then link table 2 to table 1? Or would it make any difference?

Likely you will do table 1 to 2 and 1 to 3 here.
There is no hard and fast rule as it all depends on how how the DB was designed. The information in one table relates to the information in the other tables which can be different in a table by table basis when constructing the DB.
Mor likely in this instance you will need to be more concerned about using an inner join versus an outer join.
