Hi
I have a requirement like, a XML file needs to be set as a data source to crystal report. Yea I can read the XML files in dataset and set the dataset to crystal report easily. But due to achieve the performance, client expects a direct bind ( like PULL method) to a XML file. Is it possible to bind like we are setting a MDB or SQL database? If so, please send me a link or sample code.

Is there any drawback if we use stored procedure in PULL method when the number of records exceeds the limit (records in lacks...)?

What will be the best approach to create a report for huge records?

The report needs to be displayed in crystal report viewer. When we navigate the pages or select any group in group tree or print or export, the page get reloaded. During page load the report again needs to be bind with the viewer. We can use either Session variable to store the report object of save the report in a folder and load it again. Here the session variable reduces the performance and storing the report locally needs to be care on disk cleanup. Is there any other best way to achieve this (post back)?

Some of groups need to be hidden in group tree (those groups require in the report). How to do this?

I’m using VS2008 with crystal report 2008. Please anyone help me….Confused

don't know anything about web reports.  can't pull from a xml file, can only push. once set, it is set.  can't bind...think about it, it is a file, not a database.  Same issues as pulling, just only pull once, so actually performance as no overhead of a connection and you only hit DB once.

Huge reports are going to take time to read the data/format the report.  Don't want to see something, a) don't include in XML, b) conditionally supress.

I assume that crystal always needs to reload the report when you change a page...but I don't know...only console apps here.

last remark...why a huge report...no one is going print it, no one is probably going to look at it in its entirety.  If you are getting lots of records and only displaying information is summary, let the DB do that, and return only the summary records...Crystal doesn't need the supporting detaill if the DB already did the work.

And remember that when working with XML files, Crystal does all the processing itself (filters, sorts, groups, etc.) instead of having a database to do the processing.  This takes up memory and disk space on the web server and can really slow things down.  So, as Lockwelle indicated, make the database do as much of the work as possible.

You'll probably get a better response if you post this question to a new topic.
