Topic: Suppressing a line Posted: 22 Jun 2009 at 2:34pm |
|
Hi,
I am new to Cyrstal Reports.
While creating the report i have used "Supress If duplicated" property for 5 variables as i didnt want the rows to repeat which has multiple team members.
MY report looks like this:
S.No SubtaskName Position TeamMember
1 Test ABC Jack
Rocky
Susan
2 Test1 XYC Randy
Robert
Now i want to draw a horizontal line but when i put the line in the report i get the line for the suppressed rows also. Like this:
S.No SubtaskName Position TeamMember
-------------------------------------
1 Test ABC Jack
------------------------------------
Rocky
-------------------------------------
Susan
-------------------------------------
2 Test1 XYC Randy
--------------------------------------
Robert
--------------------------------------
I want the line only for one record.
Can anyone help me on this??
Thanks,
Giddi

put the line at the top of the group header, or you could turn on the border....when the value changes. if it is all in the same group, you could use a conditional...but not a line, so the border might be a better choice.

Probably easiest to group on S No field,
assuming that the subtask name and position are always the same for all of this grouping place these all on the group header, insert a group header B, place your line there and then list the team members on the details row. Edited by DBlank - 22 Jun 2009 at 3:06pm

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
I tried both the option but could not get any solution.
The way i have designed my report is: I am grouping it using the Task ID. So initially have inserted the Task ID, TAsk name and Task Description in the group header under diff. sections of the same group(like GH#1a,GH#1b etc). In the final group header section i have inserted the text box for S.No , Subtask name , description , team member etc and in the details section i have the database fields for the S.NO , Subtask name etc
Please let me know in this case is it possible to put the lines?

I am a little confused by your set up and ultimately what you want it to look like.
Do you want a line to appear after the first Detail Section only? Or after the S No change only? or soemthing else?
If you want it for the first detail section only you could conditionally suppress base on the change of the TaskID
previous(table.taskid)=table.taskid
if you want it to appear changed on s no
previous(table.so#)=table.so#
if it is something else you will have to explain your set up and desied outcome a little more.

Sorry for the Confusion...
My requirement is to generate a report containing the details like Subtask name, description , team members for each task(i mean grouped by task).
So in the design i have put the Task name , Description under diff. sections of the same group and then grouped it by Task ID.
In the details section i have given Subtask name, Description, Team Members.
Since there were more than one team members all the rows were repeating so for Subtask name , Description fields i selected the option "Suppress If Duplicated".
So i get multiple team members for one subtask(even though each team member is displayed in new row but that is fine)
Now i want to draw a line after each subtask. But if i directly place the line in the details section, i get the line after each team member like this:
S.No SubtaskName Position TeamMember
-------------------------------------
1 Test ABC Jack
------------------------------------
Rocky
-------------------------------------
Timber
------------------------------------
Susan
-------------------------------------
2 Test1 XYC Randy
--------------------------------------
Robert
--------------------------------------
But my requirement is:
S.No SubtaskName Position TeamMember
-------------------------------------
1 Test ABC Jack
Rocky
Timber
Susan
-------------------------------------
2 Test1 XYC Randy
Robert
--------------------------------------

I think this will work but you may have to tweak this a little.
Add another Group on S.No field (GH2),
Add a section below it (GH2B)
place the Line on that.
OPen the section Expert.
click on GH2A and suppress it.
You may need to move the where you place the header sectin for you to display the:
S.No SubtaskName Position TeamMember

I would have used a variable, or next/previous to trigger the line....probably would have put it in an addtional section inside of the details and then conditionally suppressed it based on if the tasks were the same.
Many ways to skin a cat....

yes that is also a good option, i tried that initially by placing the line in new details section but i was not able to write a correct formula to suppress it. Edited by giddi83 - 23 Jun 2009 at 12:08pm
