Topic: Conditional Header and Space ommittance Posted: 28 Jul 2008 at 2:12am |
Hi
I am building a crystal report (Crystal Report XI) which is composed of a number of sub sections in the Details Section as follows:
Report Header
Page Header
Details
- Details a
- Details b
- Details c
- Details d
Page Footer
Report Footer
My question is whether it is possible to somehow suppress the Page Header when showing a particular detail sub section only e.g. Details d. Is this at all possible please?
Furthermore, the report reads from a dataset but since i have a number of subsections in the detail section displaying different parts of the report, i am encountering a problem of extra spaces in between sections when the text in a subsection is of a particular length and so im am losing the flow in the report. Can i somehow remove these extra spaces?
Thanks in advance
Charmaine

Yes - you can conditionally suppress the Page Header.
You haven't really provided enough information to give a complete answer - but in the section expert for a page header enter in a formula in "x-2" box for suppress. However don't check the box next to suppress.
For the formula create the reverse condition of when section D displays such as
isull(table.sectionDfield)
The formula could vary depending on the structure of the data.

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your response however I do not think i was clear in what is requested. Section D will ALWAYS have data in it, it will also start at a new page, what i want is that the header does not display on the particular page containing Section D data not when i dont have data in section D. Am i making sense?

I was going to attempt to answer your question, but I am not sure I understand it. I would probably be able to help you if you reword it in a different manner.
Do you want to stop it from creating a new page after that section? or is that not part of your problem?

Nop that is not part of the problem, what i want is:
1. A report with a page header for all the pages EXCEPT for the page which displays Details Section D ( I will not know what page number this will be on so cannot use a conditional formula checking the page number)
2. A way to remove extra spaces which occur between different sections. Why? Each section in the details part contains a field from the dataset the report is reading from. This is causing a lot of page breaks when say two sections do not fit in one page.

Charmaine,
have you found an answer to this problem? I have a similar one where I am printing 3 documents/letters in the one report. Each letter requires the same header on the first page only. I am trying to do this without duplicating the header in the details section.
To remove blank lines/spaces have you tried setting the section expert to untick 'keep together'. The same on the text boxes or fields - untick keep object together

Hope you have solved your problem. Otherwise I would use suppress if empty, that will remove any empty fields taking space. But if you are using text objects inside your detail this won't work. Then you will have to create formulas containing this the text. For an example if {datatable.columnid} = "" then "" //No data to add. else "Add your text"
This way the text formula used will be empty if the datasource is empty. and the detail will be suppressed.

would also want to print a message in the detail section for the corresponding group for ex: 'no such documents present'.
And using the summary field i get a count and print it in the group footer, but when no entries in details then am not getting a '0'i.e. zero to be printed.

It would help if u explain ur requirement a bit:
anyway my solution was in below steps.
1)In your group footer you can add a textbox and write a msg in it saying no data available.
2)Right click on your Group footer >> Section expert.
3)Let the Suppress(No Drill-down) section be unchecked.
4)Click on the 'X' formulae section and add a formula like
5)Add a formula : Count({RPTField.Filedname}) > 0
Hope this helps. Edited by bond_003 - 21 Sep 2009 at 10:10am
