Hello,

I have a report which is composed of a lot of text fields from our data base.  Each text field needs a heading which is text object followed by  the data base field.

Both the text object and the data field are in the same section with "keep together" ticked however they don't stay together.  Depending on the amount of data, the heading may print on the bottom of the page and the data on the next page.

Is there a forumla which can keep the text object (or heading) with the data field which follows it.

Thanks
Lynne

Hi,

Do you have groups in your reports.

Both the text object and the data field are in the same section with "keep together" ticked however they don't stay together are you talking about Groupheadings? and Data?.....

Cheers
Rahul

Hi Rahul - no I'm not using groups - it's just a large free text field from the data base and a text box inserted inside Crystal  for the heading.

I work at the Powerhouse Museum so many of our reports are based on text fields rather than numbers.  This report has a series of large text fields one after the other.  Each field need to in a separate section with it's own heading.

Thanks
Lynne

If the text heading is unique, you could create a group on the heading. Otherwise create a group on the text. You can also sort on a group if that helps to organize your report.

On the Options tab for a group, select "Keep Group Together". Since every group will be unique and have only one record, you can place the heading and text on the group and suppress the detail section. That should do it.

Hi again,

I've tried this but to no avail.   I made the heading a formula so I could select it in the group box it but even doing this and ticking  "keep together" in the Group options did not work.

Is there any any way of including heading and text in the one formula?

I'm used to writing formulas like the one below.  Can I tack insert the data field on the end of this somehow?

if isnull ({econserv_csv.DetReviewNotes}) then "" else "Condition on Departure from Powerhouse Museum"

Thanks again

Hi Lynne,
If you have multiple groups, make sure the others don't have "keep group together" checked as they make take priority over the group you want. If that does no work, can you send the report to me with a small dataset included? It will be much easier to see what the problem is with the report in front of me. Send to roland.vink at aut.ac.nz

Thanks for this but I've resolved this by making the field and it's heading a sub report.  It now stays together as required.

Thanks again
