i have been having problems with crystal with the data fields , the field in question when right clicked on shows as usual "browse data" but only when in a blank report , when i attempt to browse data when in the report in question it shows no option to do so , and when dragged into the CR it shows as blank , despite there being much data within it , if anyone has any ideas on why this is happening it would be much apreciated if you could help me out.

Off the top of my head, I'd say it's one of two issues.
You could have some select criteria set on your report, such that no data is being returned.
It could be a formatting issue, which is causing existing data to be suppressed or otherwise not display on the report.
Unfortunately, without knowing a bit more about your situation, I can't guess at much else. Personally, I'd start with a brand new report, connect it to the same data source, and see if it works there. If it does work, then try adding elements from your other report, until it stops working. Then try to figure out why your change caused the problem.
