Where does Crystal V9 gets its calendar from ?
A report with a fromdate and todate parameter worked fine last week, now a selection from 2/4/2013 to 23/4/2013 is changed to 1/5/2013 to 6/5/2013

I tried a simple test in a new report, a formula field :
date(year(datadate),month(datadate),1) and is displays as 2013-05-01 instead of 2013-05-06
any ideas ?

well, you did tell it that the day was the first. Date(Year, Month, Day)...
do 4/2/2013 - 4/23/2013 got changed to 5/1/2013 - 5/6/2013 ...sorry just changing the format to make sure we are all on the same page.
I don't know why it would do that. Does the report have any logic about changing the dates?

there were no formulas changing parameter dates.
I actually solved it by changing the parameters to datetime and create formulas date({?fromdate} and date({?todate}) and used those in the selection.
still no idea why date parameters end up with wrong dates
