I'm just getting started in this world of CR! My biggest issue right now is learning how why to link certain records between tables in the Database Expert. What or where is a good place to start learning about this?

Can't say that there is a good definitive source....

In a nutshell, you are joining the tables together using columns that hold the same value.  Say you are working with grades for students...you would have several tables say, student, grades, and classes.
say the columns were:
Student:          Class:            Grades:
StudentID,       ClassID,         GradeID
FName,            ClassName,    StudentID,
LName             TeacherID      ClassID,
                                            Grade

The studentID is in all three tables, so you would link all the tables on StudentID, and you can link Class and Grades using the ClassID.

Now when you can build a report and group by the class or the student or the grade, or the teacher and all the values will be correct.  You are linking the tables together on the like data.

to add on this i would recommend learning how to join tables in Access or SQL if you can. All of the concepts apply and it is pretty easy to see in the resulting data set how the different joins impact the results. There is also a lot more written about these. Once you understand the basics in one of those applications applying that knowledge to CR is pretty straight forward.

Thanks guys, I'll try to research SQL commands.

One could build an entire database using only SQL commands, couldn't they?
