I am having an issue with packing list printing. Basically at my work we use MAS90 which uses crystal reports XI to design our reports. I have 2 issues that I don't know how to fix.

1st: The previous shipping person set up certain item codes so that when they are entered a new line item is used for each part that is used to make the product. example: I enter the code for a bag with screws and washers in it and a line is automatically added for the screws that are used and one line for the washers. How is this done?
2nd: To go along with that issue, now when our packing list prints it shows all of the lines which is confusing our customers. The additonal line items all have a hyphen which seperates them from the actual product (IE: 5GH001-01, 5GH001-02 etc for each item used in the product). Is there anyway to set it up so that the hyphen items do not show up on the packing list (whether by collapsing, supressing etc).

To say I am a noob and completely unknowledgable in Crystal reports is a major understatement. This is the first time I have had to deal with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dont that I offer all you need of an answer but let me see if this makes some sense. Keep in mind that  Crystal reports on information stored elsewhere.

On your first issue, I would speculate that the database is designed in a way that all items for a for a product. Let's assume there is a product 'A'. Product 'A' has screws and washers. In the database the is a way the screws and washers needed for product 'A' are identifed. It may be a product id in this case 'A'.  So when the report runs it lists all the items needed for Product 'A' using the product id in this case 'A'. That is is the relationship being reported.

The second question is the item is the line item could be suppressed or even deleted if not needed. It may be safer to simply right click on the report field and check the Suppress box.

So the answer for the first question is the relationship in the database and the second is try suppressing the field to see if it gives you the look you want.

Hope this is of some help.

We would need a bit more info to help, there is not much to go on here.

For example, what is the basic layout of the report, does the suppressing work on any level? What exactly are you suppressing, fields, sections, subreports, etc, are you using a formula as the suppression basis and  if so what dois th formula?  Similar questions concerning grouping issues. Its hard to help you troubleshoot the issues, when all we have fpr background is I have a report and it does not work.

That kind of information  will help the forum members offer suggestions, and trust me there are people here who will try to help you.

Regards,
