I am trying to format a date field into the julian date as stored on our database. eg today is written as 1180 ( year and number of days from jan 1st
 
has anybody got a formula which will do the job?

not answering your question but i've seen an option in CR for the date format. but forgot where it is. Wacko
maybe it is depend on the Regional Setting of your computer.
 
but in CR you can try to check from:
- right click your date field in the report
- choose 'Format Field...'
- click 'Customize...'
  make sure 'Date' tab is selected
 
check on Date Type.
is there a Julian date format?
 
if 'not' then.. need help from someone else. sorry can't help you further.
