Please search the forum. We've discussed this a few times and talk about what you can and can't do with Crystal Reports.

They way that it works is that in the past CR has been very restrictive about creating dynamic reports. In other words, it cost a lot of money to get that functionality. What I always recommened in the past was to use dynamic columns on a report and use a SQL statement to give each column an alias ('Col1', 'Col2', etc.) This simulates a dynamic report because you can use  a variety of queries as your datasource as long as the report columns share the same aliased names.

With CR XI R2 and CR 2008, they have now eased up on the licensing model and they included report creation functionality in the base license. However, you still can't create a report 100% from scratch. The basic requirement is to create  report with no report objects and then use the report creation API to add the new report objects to this empty report file. The BOBJ support site has a variety of topics that give you sample code for how to add these objects to your report.
