     Posted: 28 Feb 2008 at 7:22am
Hi,

I've created a report containing a cross-tab, the column field for which is a date field (shown per month).

The problem I'm having is that if there was no activity in a given month, no column appears and it looks untidy.

Is there any way of making it show each month in a given range, even if there is no data for a given month or months?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Crystal does not seem to support the concept you are after. The only way I know to force it to display ALL months is to write the query which ensures all months are present in the data. One way to do that is to write a union query, the first part has dummy data with all dates required, the second part has the data you want. You could group the cross-tab so the dummy data appears at the end. Not the most elegant solution.

The only other solution is to "manually" create a cross-tab. For example if your report always reports by month for the last 12 months, create a running total for each month - if a particular month has no data you'll get a zero total. It takes a bit more work to set up all the running totals and lay them out on your report but it could be a viable option if your report has a fairly standard date range.

Thanks rvink.  That's how I usually go about creating these things.  It's so time consuming, I thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone had any elegant solutions.

Back to creating multiple running totals then!

Cheers
