We have a report in Crystal 11with a date parameter field and we would like to have it default to today's date.  When we bring up the default value option drop down it is empty.

you could select NULL and then code for NULL to be today...that would just be a checkbox, I think, I haven't had to look at the parameter screens for several years.

Another option might be to use a Command to query for valid dates and to include today's as well...put it on top.

Just a couple of ideas

If you choose DATE as the "Type:" field, the calendar button usually defaults to today's date.(if the user doesn't mind clicking on the calendar thingy)

see...I said I don't use the parameter screen to often...mostly because our application used wizards that replaced the parameter screen. :)
