Hello

I have been asked to create a chart which shows Equipment failures based on Equipment type (there are 10 different equipment types in total) and within certain dates in which the user can define these within a parameter field.

I have successfully created a chart which looks is based on Change of Equipment type and counting the Equipment Type, but

The database contains information from 10/06/2010 till the present day, but they now want to be able to see the equipment failures prior to this date back as far as 01/01/2005!. I have been given this information as year totals but I cannot see or am struggling to incorporate these fixed values into the chart.

I have created formula's to calculate this but this was only based on 1 Equipment type which works but I was using the Running Total field then adding on the fixed data based on the date, but CR will not allow me to create a graph using this formula.

Can any tell me if this can be done and if so how.

If you need more information then please let me know.

Hi

If you want to show the dates which are not there in database, then you need to insert all dates into an excel file and use left outer join to your table.  Pickup prior years and values from excel using a formula and show it in chart.

Thanks,

Thanks for the reply,
I would have thought that I should be able to create a formula or base a running total which can then be used in the chart.

This formula would calculate the total and add on 0 if within 2010 to present date add on say 10 for 2009 add on 20 for 2008 etc.

Is there no other way round this problem apart from introducing an excel spreadsheet containing the information.

Hi

Thre is no otherway we can assign values to prior years.  Even if you refer years as variables you can't attach them to chart.

Ex :

Numbervar Y_2005 := 10;
Numbervar Y_2006 := 20;
Numbervar Y_2007 := 30;

Now if you use if statement to bring these values into your formula like :

If Y_2005 = 10 then 'Year 2005' Else
if Y_2006 = 20 then 'Year 2006' Else... so..on..

Here the 'IF' statement will execute always once because Y_2005 is always 10 and it will not evaluate other conditons.. so, you will not get these values into your formula to show on your chart.

Only excel is the best way to complete the task

Thanks,
Sastry
