I have a report that I just created a 2nd group on. My groups look like this

group 1 - ssn
group 2 - checkdate

when I try to sum a field like this

SUM({hours}, {checkdate})

I get this error

There must be a group matching this field

I can't figure out why it's saying I need a group that is already made.

any help would be great.

include the part of the date you are grouping on
example:
SUM({hours}, {checkdate},"monthly")

"the group condition is not known"

i tried week, weekly, month, monthly, year, yearly, hour, hourly and countless other options...

I'm having such a hard time with this report.

it could be that you created a group from a different
table ;
like
group table1.checkdate
sum
SUM({hours}, table2.checkdate)

in this case it the sum wont work

checkdate is only on 1 table but the first thing i tried was deleting the group and re-added to make sure there wasn't anything glitchy.

also just select the hours field on the report canvas
select the sigma sign (blue E)
dialogue box opens
field to summarize should already be set to "hours"
set calculate this summary to SUM
select the summary location as group = table.checkdate grouping

DB, the only problem with that is this is a csv export so i'm using variables all throughout to get all my records on 1 line for the client.

the variable starts in the header, gets built in the details and shows in the footer. it's a shared numbervar throughout. like this

header - shared numbervar eehours:= 0;
details - shared numbervar eehours:= {hours};
footer - shared numbervar eehours;
