How do you suppress your main report group footer row when the subreport placed in that footer is null, or comes up empty?

I should add that my subreport contains 2 groupings (one by patient ID (this is a number) and the other by CPT code (this is a number)). The line that is showing the data is a Sum of the patient balance and then the corresponding CPT Code for each balance.

set the sub report property to suppress when blank and set the GF section property to suppress when blank.

so you
right clicked on the sub report
select format sub report
select subreport tab
set the 'suppress blank subreport' as check (true)

does this portion work and suppress it as expected?

It still pulls the main report data with a blank spot where the subreport is. My goal is to suppress the whole role if the subreport comes up empty.

Is there any other content on the group footer besides the sub report?

Yes, Patient Name, Transaction Date and Provider's last name. There is two groupings, the first being by Patient Name and the Second being by Patient ID. The subreport is linked via the Patient ID.

That is a different question.
I assume you have to have the name, date and provider above the sub report.
This means you will have to run the subreport twice and split these items into multiple group footers.
run it once in GFa above the names, return a  shared variable, use that to conditinally suppress the next GFb section with the names and dates and a 3rd to re-run the subreport to show results for positive hits.

Or consider moving the names and dates into the subreport and getting them out of the main report.
