Hi,
Why might a varchar(max) field, with Can Grow set to yes, with no max number of lines set, get truncated after around 32,000 characters?
Is there a registry setting limit perhaps?

We're using Crystal Reports 2008, version 12.4.0.966

Regards.

Hi,

As per my knowlede,
any database field can show only 32K Characters only.
I think you'll need to split the field, Break the field into 32k strings  To display the entire field, create a text field, and drag the two fields that hold the two parts into it.  (I haven't tried this, but can't think of a good reason why it wouldn't work...)
I knew concatenation wasn't gonna work due to Crystal's string size limitation.  I didn't recall the exact number, but it looks like it's 32k...

Thanks Praveen.
Unfortunately if you split the RTF field, the second half does not recognise that it is RTF (due to the fact that that information is held at the beginning of the text).

...on further investigation, if I change the Text Interpretation from 'RTF Text' to 'none' it will display the entire contents of the field but, of course, with all the rich text formatting, e.g.

{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deftab850{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Arial;}{\f1\fswiss\fprq2\fcharset0 Arial;}{\f2\froman\fprq2\fcharset0 Times New Roman;}}

{\colortbl ;\red0\green0\blue0;\red255\green0\blue0;\red0\green0\blue255;}

\viewkind4\uc1\pard\cf1\lang2057\b\fs29 Source of Wealth Note\cf0\par

\cf1\b0\fs18\par

\b\fs23 Overview\par

\par

Does anyone have any idea why that would be please?

(In RTF it cuts a sentence off mid-way through so it doesn't look like it is an RTF format it doesn't like)
