How do you parse a text field in Crystal?  The data is derived from a SQL db, varchar(5000), and the field I need is delimited by commas.

Aside from knowing there could be dates or social security numbers among other things, there is no way of predicting the length or format of each element in the field.  There may even be some text, with spaces.

You said field delimited by commas. So, is this field ALWAYS after the 1st or 2nd or whatever number of commas? If so, then you can match to find the position of that 1st/2nd/3rd comma, cut the text from there up to the next found comma.
I have done something similar before.
Can you show an example of your data?

Understood.

Further research indicates that parsing is not the solution.  I just need to id the text field in question (by another field) to determine what sort of data it contains.

Thanks for the reply.
