Quote daveblake00 Replybullet Topic: Issue with adding tp an Existing Report
     Posted: 04 Mar 2013 at 6:00am

I have an existing reports that list clients 1 to 10. all clients have multiple agreements but are only shown once.

I have been askes to add in the equipment type for each client. ie 3 X Product A. 2 X Product B. I am bringing this information in from a table with all active agreements showing clients and equipment

However when i bring in the equipment type it lists each typ of equipment as well as repeating the existing text so i end up with

Rank     Client        Comment       Equipment Type
1           Client A     Text Here       Product A

1           Client A     Text Here      Product A

1           Client A     Text Here       Product A

And the same for the second client and third client and so on

What i need it to look like is

Rank     Client        Comment       Equipment Type
1           Client A     Text Here       3 X Product A
2           Client B     Text Here       2 X Product A  1X Product B

Any help would be greatly appreciated

How many product types do you have? If a lot or they are dynamic in nature then I think this might work.

group on client, then group in product, insert a formula in the product grouop footer as
totext (count(product,product),0,"") + ' x ' + table.product

then us this in shared variable to concantenate the reults togther and display that in the client group footer.
suppress the headers and detail sections

Gave it a try but no luck. The product type is a string field. Don't know if this makes a difference. Only 5 Product types . Names are a mixture of numbers and letters i.e ABD85-3FG

you can use running totals and conditional suppression but this will not update the report the way the other will if you start using new products. Do you want that process?

Have used running totals and that has helped a bit but text still repeating itself if a client had 2 different products,
New to crystal so not familiar with conditional suppression but will play around with it and give it a try.

Priducts are not likely to change.

Thanks for your help

create 5 running totals each with conditional evaluation formulas

example 1
name=RTproductA
field to sumamrize = equipment
type=count
evaluate=use a formula
table.equipment=' equipment A'
reset= on change of group 1 (client)

you can place each of these in the group footer to make sure  they count each type correctly
now you can create formula fields to use this data
make sure to set the formula to 'use default values for null'
//display
(if #RTproductA>0 then totext(#RTproductA,0,"") + ' X product A') &
(if #RTproductB>0 then totext(#RTproductB,0,"") + ' X product B') &
(if #RTproductC>0 then totext(#RTproductC,0,"") + ' X product C') & ...
place this in the report footer
suppress the detail section

Have done that and it tidies up the report however the repeating issue remains

eg

1      $100,000 Client A        7XProduct A
1       $100,000 Client A       5XProduct B

No issue if a client has only one product type
eg
 2     $100,000 Client B        7XProduct A
 3     $100,000 Client C        7XProduct B
 4     $100,000 Client D        7XProduct A

Yes have done that now. Still not really working. What is coming up now is

1  $100,000   Client A        4x Product A
1  $100,000   Client A        4x Product A  8XProduct B

The second line is correct but don't want to see the first line

is that numeric value on the left the primary key?
switch your group to use that and try it. Dont add a new group as it will make you fix your RT's, instead change the group field in the group expert)
