How many ways have you been able to reduce the amount of "memory" it takes to run a given report without removing any of the the detail in the report itself ??

Our IT department has determined that it is taking roughly 3.67 GB of memory to run each of our reports.  We have a 4 GB limit so several of the reports that are heavy in transactional detail have begun failing now that we are running them for a full 12 months.

We do not want to "water down" or split up the reports.  is there anyone out there that has gone through this ??  Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Angelo

--Is your reports are created using tables ? If so,

Try to create or change datasource of your reports to

--Add command :- This option allow you to create reports based off free hand sql and this sql will run at database end and it filters all data at database end gets fillterd data into your report.

--Streored Procedure :  It is a pre-compailed statements which willalso get executed at database end

-- Database View

This will reduce the amount of memory the report takes.
Thanks,

There are also a couple of things to look at that force Crystal to load data into memory and work on it there instead of pushing the work to the database.  These things include:

- Linking multiple commands as if they were tables.  Instead, create a single command that pulls all of the data.

- Using the Select Expert to set the filter when using commands.  Instead, create any parameters in the Command Editor and do the filtering in the command.

- Using Crystal functions in the Select Expert.  Instead, find a way to do this using a command or a SQL Expression.

- Using subreports that are at the Details level of the report or that get run frequently during a large report.  There are a number of potential ways to get around this, but if you can't, look at the best practices I've listed above and that Sastry has listed in his post.

- Using "page N of M" or "TotalPages" in your report.  This means that Crystal has to render ALL of the pages before showing anything.  If you have subreports, this is especially memory intensive.  I avoid using them whenever possible.

So the take away from our meeting is that This data is running through a Bex query.  Going forward we will be looking for ways to make that process more efficient and less of a "memory" hog.
