this is the old question, but I didn't get the right answer to help me solve my problem.

I set the paramater to run the report by a "System1", "System2", "System3". In "System1" has 2 categories, System2 has 10 categories, system 3 has 20 categories.

I don't know what is the reason when I set the parameter, the categories in every system lost . For example, system 2 lost 2 or 3 categories, system3 lost 5 or 8 categories.

My process is Field Explorer\Parameter Fields\ right click chose New. It open the Edit Paramter box, then Select the Value Field the name of Categories. Then clocik on Actions, click on Append database value.

And the result, the categories come out but it lost some.

I don't know why, can anyone explain to me please.

Thank you in advance.

Let me make sure I understand what's happening.  You're creating a dynamic list of categories based on the system that is valid for those categories.  Is that correct?  If you're doing this based on the query for the report, the issue could be that the missing combinations don't get returned in that query.  A best practice for dynamic parameters is to include a separate table or set of tables that are NOT linked to the main report data.  This table(s) return just the values for the parameters - so in your case it would be something like the lookup list for the categories.  When you don't link these tables to the main tables for the report, Crystal will complain that it's "not generally supported", but you can ignore that warning.

If you already have the lookup table for the categories in your report, you'll need to add it again.  When you do that, Crystal will ask if you wan't to "alias" the table.  At that point Crystal will add the table with "_1" after the table name.  So, for example, you'll have a table called "Categories" that is linked to the main query for the report and another table called "Categories_1" that you'll use for your prompt.

How can I do linke the main query for the report with the new name "Categories_1"?

Does it do in Crystal Report or do in SQL query?

You don't - that's the whole point.  The data for the parameter must come from something that is NOT linked to the main report data.  You can do this with either tables or commands.

How can I do with either tables or command? while I don't have permission to write procedure and to do any in procedure query,?

Is another reason with the query make it lost the data when set the parameter?

A command does not require a stored procedure - it is just a SQL Select Statement.

Another possible reason for lost data would be that Crystal only reads a limited number of records from the report data set when setting up the parameters.  There is a registry setting to help with this.  Which version of Crystal are you running?

The registry setting that you need is under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV

- If any of the folders in this path don't exist, create them.

Under LOV, add the key MaxRowsetRecords with a value of -1 for unlimited records or a value of the maximum number of records that you want to read.

The path and key are case sensitive!
