I have a field called "Signature" which is populated when a taks is completed
 
I am trying to count how many items in this field are null

If you do not have duplicates to deal with create a formula field
//Nullcounter
if isnull(table.signatre) then 1
Now you can use the insert summary function on this to sum the value from the formual field
 
Otehr 2 options: Create a Running Total or a set of Shared Variable Formulas
