Quote Freddie Replybullet Topic: Field Cannot be Summarized
     Posted: 20 Dec 2011 at 10:05am
Let me preface this with the fact I am a "Newbie Crystal Writer" and using Crystal 11...

formula 1 titled daysdiff
{date.due} - previous{date.due}  - this works fine and I get a number.
(ex. 34)

Formula 2  titled <30days
If {daysdiff} < 30 then 1 else 0

this works fine as well..

Problem is when i try to do a running total on count of unique ppl with
<30days.  I cannot see the "field" from Running Totals and am told "Field Cannot be Summarized" when i try other stuff.

Please help!  this is making me crazy and all I want to get is a count of ppl that have <30days difference in dates!    Anything will be helpful here!

you cannot summarize a field that uses previous()
instead make the running total use htat as an evaluation formula
Naem= whatever
field to summarize= a primary key
type= count (or distinct count if you have duplictes you need to handle)
evaluate= use a formula
{date.due} - previous{date.due} < 30
reset=never (if you have no group summary you need to show)
place in footer (and detail section if you want to see the row level increments)

Its giving me a count of all the dates listed one item may have 6 "date.due" and it is just counting each of those ... this is how i wrote the formula...

{date.due} - previous({date.due}) < 30

its not looking at <30 i think .. some date.due may be over 30 and its just doing a count on all date.due

Can you post some sample rows of the data and how you want to count to appear?

I finally got it to work!  Its a variation of what you gave me!  thank you!

I created a field called {date.due  - 30} and the formula for that was {date.due} - 30

that gave me a new date of the original date - 30 days.

So, I then created a running total and on that formula stated to count if the {date.due-30} < previous({date.due})

I did the count and it is working!  Thanks for helping me think "outside the box" .
