I have a very annoying problem that is doing my head in....

Our corporate system has a license to use the embedded CR Viewer from Crystal/BO/SAP whatever they should be called now.

Every time I add a sub-report to a report, do the linking, etc all works fine as long as I execute the report in CR XI Designer. However when I execute report using the embedded CR viewer I am prompted for an extra parameter which is the linking field between main report and sub-report. Cry

To add to the mess, once this happens I go to report designer and do 'verify database' and am prompted with 'database is up to date', followed by 'database table xxx cannot be found. Proceed to remove this table from the report?' Y/N
and does so for all tables in the sub-report. It seems like main report does not recognise sub-report tables...

Tried on different workstations running CR XI designer and happens the same in all of them.

It only started to happen recently and there is no way to go around it... tried to re-import sub-report, delete/re-add sub-report all to no avail.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thank you,
Luis

Try opening up the "Select Expert" and adding the field there.

it seems that your sub report is connected to a different database and crystal viewer doesnt have reading rights on that database.
to check is that is true  go to database tab click on "set datasource location"
and set each table to the right database.

Hi kostya1122,

Great pointer/suggestion but that is not the case. I double checked and I'm connecting to same (ODBC connection) database. In the sub-report the 'Select Expert' shows the linking correctly.

So far I tried:
1. add existing (saved) sub-report to my main report and try again. Same result.
2. create new sub-report, link it and try again. Same result.
3. install latest (CR XI Release1 SP4) and try steps 1 and 2 again. Same result.
4. un-install CR XI and install CR9 and try steps 1 and 2 again. Same result.

I do agree it seems Crystal is seeing the database from the main report as different from the database in the sub-report. Strange thing is that it works fine when running within Designer but asks for Pm-xxx parameter in the embedded viewer which is what the users use.

Don't know what else to do...

Hi CircleD,

Thank you for you suggestion. Tried that but ended up with same result.

It seems Crystal is seeing the database from the main report as different from the database in the sub-report. Strange thing is that it works fine when running within Designer but asks for Pm-xxx parameter when running it using the embedded viewer which is what the users use.

I'm running it against an Informix database, not sure if it has something to do with the database driver but again haven't changed that side of things... May try to log the issue with SAP and see what happens...

try this
when connecting to the database to run the report use the log in information that users use in crystal viewer then save and republish report.
