Quote foxy Replybullet Topic: on demand sub report
     Posted: 13 Sep 2007 at 4:04am
I have an on demand sub report in my details section.

In quite a few cases, the on demand report will be blank when you click on it because there is no indicator field present for that group.

I want to suppress the details section when there is no indicator field for that group.

However, it wont suppress the section when i use the isnull formula.

Is there any way to suppress an ondemand subreport or is this just not possible?

Thanks

Put the subreport in its own section. Right-click the subreport and select Format Subreport. On the subreport tab check Suppress Blank Subreport. Then go back to the main report and for the section holding the subreport, right-click the grey area to the left and select Section Expert. Set the option Suppress Blank Section.

Hi Brian

Yea I have tried exactly that already, it still will not suppress the section, it is as if the hyperlink will not allow you to suppress it.

If i change it so that it is not on-demand then it works and the section suppresses but it does not when I change it back to an on-demand one!

Im a bit confused!

Hmmm.. that's a good question. So the hyperlink is keeping it from being suppressed? What about putting a shared variable in the subreport and setting it based upon if the subreport has data or not. Then disable the section based upon that shared variable.

Maybe someone else has a better idea for the suppressing the subreport hyperlink?

Yea that could possibly work.

I have gone into the subreport design and put a formula in the section expert that suppresses every section if there is no data, then I have enabled the 'suppress blank subreport' option and have also chosen to suppress the section that the subreport is in in the main report.

Dont understand why it is not working to be honest, bit weird!

I think its not working because there is a text hyperlink pointing to the report. Thus, the section is not blank because the link counts as taking up space. You need to disable the link and then the section will be blank again (this is all theoretical until you tell us if this worked or not...)

I tried putting a count as a shared variable in the subreport. I then suppressed the section based on this shared variable. It just suppresses the section every time.

So as a check I dragged the shared variable into the section to display it & it is just 0 every time. The shared variable does not seem to be passing a value back to the main report.

Any ideas?

This may help---you can hide hyperlinks based on a condition:
