I am curious to know if there is a way to tell if a report has been printed or ran. For example, the user enters in a inspectionnumber and hits apply and then clicks print and then prints the report. Can i know if the report has been printed? is there a way to use local variables to track that, some sort of loop?

I can conceive of a way to see if a report has been run, but I don't think that there is way to see if the print button has been pressed....

but I've been wrong before

You can create a stored procedure in SQL, assuming you are using SQL, to accept the inspectionnumber as a parameter.

The Stored Procedure would only need to insert a record in a table with a date printed value.

If you then include the SP in your report, and you run the report, it will insert a record into the table.

However, like lockwelle mentioned, this would only keep track of the fact that the report was run, not printed. Unless you control the printing engine with something like a dot net application.

I agree that printing is probably out of the question. My boss mentioned the SQL field, i was just curious to know if there was something inside CR itself that could either verify the report was being printed before the changes had applied

Nope, nothing in Crystal Itself.

Howerver, there might be a way if you are using Business Object Server.
