Hi Crystal Gurus,
This has been stumping me and would be grateful for any solution to this...
I'm creating a report for users to generate requests for photography of artworks in our museum's collection.  They are prompted to complete request related information in "Name." Phone Number," "Due Date,"  etc. string parameters.
The request might be for one or many objects to be photographed.  One of the necessary parameters is for "Preferred View" where they instruct our photographers to shoot an overall, or detail, etc. The preferred view might be different for each work.  Is there anyway, say, if the request has three objects in it, that CR could create three parameter prompts and drop them into the corresponding details section for each?
I'm not finding much that would indicate that this is possible.
Thanks very much!

Prompts are asked before the report accesses the DB, so it wouldn't know how many objects are returned.

Though I'm confused why you would want to create three prompts and "drop them into the corresponding details section" if there were 3 objects. What if there were 200 objects?

pardon, i'll try to clarify. the three, or five, or however many objects needing to be photographed might require different views...paintings and two-dimensional works being shot very differently from 3d/sculpture. i was hoping to find a way for the user to specify details about the view needed for each object on their request. and yes, the param prompts are before request to the db, so it wouldn't have any way of counting the records in the request and create a corresponding string parameter for each one.  200 would be very, very rare, but i know what you mean. requests approaching that volume are usually exhibition or publication project driven and handled differently.

Yes 200 was a little bit of a stretch.

I'm still not too sure how the report (or I suppose, gallery) would work.

Each object most likely has say "tags" that you use to categorize them. So I can say I want 3D or I want sculptures as my filter criteria and the report will only retrieve those that meet that criteria. The "preferred view" would also fall under this.

Using parameters, you would prompt users to select the filter criteria and then use a selection expert to display only those that are requested.

Up until this line, you probably already figured that out cause it's the easy part. So I'm guessing the key is this part which I'm still not sure what you are looking for:

Is there anyway, say, if the request has three objects in it, that CR could create three parameter prompts and drop them into the corresponding details section for each?

Perhaps an example of the procedure that a user would go through to outline how the report should behave?
