if you are in a group, you can have a formula that runs on the detail line saving values in shared variables and then displaying them in a formatted way using another formula in the group footer.
The problems that might arise is if you have more lines than you have variables for, or you have not coded your variable to correctly handle the data.
As for just merging 2 row together, no reporting tool does that. You can play games with selectively hiding items, but to place them all on the same row, you need to use a formula of some kind to display in just one row (the group footer is usually a good candidate)
