This is CR XI .

I have designed a report and is running really slow .In my report , there is a filter which checks for a verbiage in the memo field.
I tried different ways , by converting it to the text format and then searching for the string or trimming the first few letters and then searching for the string, this was becuase i knew the string i was searching was in the beginning.Bt none of the above change helped in performance.

Does anyone have a better approach to include the memo field in the filter and have a better performance.

I have used the same filter in another report but it works fine but in this report since the search is bringing null records can this be a reason.I am not sure.Help needed.

if the same filter for the same field works ok in another report, then the first things that come to mind, is how many tables/rows are you retrieving?  Are there any subreports?

Subreports are a prime reason to degrade the performance of a report, as each call to the subreport results in a call to the database to read the data.  Couple this with a large recordset, and things can slow down.

Another tidbit that DBlank has mentioned, using the 'Page x of y' will also slow the report as it has to create the report and then go back update every page

Thanks, the report runs better after removing the page x of y.That was a good catch. But is there any other way to display the page number as that is also the requirement.

There is no sub report in this report but as i mentioned it does search a string in the memo field in the filter criteria. Is the fitler on  memo field the reason for its slowness.

you can just select a page number, just not the page x of y one.

It could be the conversion from memo to text and then the search, I don't know off-hand.
