Not sure what is going on, even our IT guy is stumped.

All of the sudden the connections to the two databases I'm pulling from are so slow that CR ends up crashing. We've removed and reinstalled the software, removed and reinstalled drivers, and created totally fresh connections. It's only slow when selecting the database to build a report - or refreshing an existing report. Literally - after letting a report refresh over night - I came in the next day to see that CR had crashed. Any thoughts?

can you query the data in the database using other tools without issue?

Looking into that right now - assuming I cannot - what would that indicate?

what is your set up?
DB type? seperate servers? deployment process? web servers involved?
Definately not my area but I have seen similar issues happen with:
- rogue queries that are just crushing servers so the performance is maxed out
- SQL server that ran out of space either in teh DB or operating system
- run away transaction logs
- bad switches that kill data movement
- and some other stuff that I cannot think of right now

Here is what I know

Pulling from two sources - both of which are ODBC. Two programs hold the data MUNIS and SSI - they are governmental accounting programs.

Pulling from a network server (about 25 feet away)

We've reset the server a few times to no avail - could it be a driver issue perhaps?

Please take this all with a grain of salt as this is out of my area but:
as always did anything change in the whole environment at the time of performance degradation?
Is this the only thing on your network that is slowed or are there other traffic issues (maybe not as severe)?
my server is the same physical distance but we had some serious speed issues that ended up being various network/hardware issues:
e.g.server hardware failing, loose wires (tech tripped and pulled them), over heating component, bad array, failed router switch , and other stuff
Ask your network/hardware folks to review EVERYTHING that has been done to any part of the network set up, especially on the day you saw the issue (or weekend before if it was monday).

Thanks a lot - will do

It is interesting that it is only like this on my computer. On other computers speed is no issue. IT is saying they may just rebuild my computer from scratch and hope that fixes it. If it weren't for the fact others are not having issues - I would say its a server issue for sure. I'm thinking otherwise...I will post a solution once its found. Thanks again!

I would log in on another machine (or install the software on another machine if you are the sole crystal developer) to test the theory of it being your machine before making that assumption, rebuilding and realizing it is not fixed after all that. Not to mentino wasted time.

OK - logged in to three different machines - no issues whatsoever. It's something with my machine/the connection with my machine. Once I find a solution I will post it here just for the FYI. Thanks again!

You might also try connecting your PC to another network connection that works fine for another computer.  If it is slow for you, could be your network card etc.  If it is fast for you, it must be your connection.
