Hi, how do you manage version control of your crystal reports?
If you enhance or bug-fix a report, how do you document the changes?
How do you store old versions in case you need to roll back to an older version?
How do you document your reports - it's easy enough to add comments to formula fields, but how do you comment other parts of your report, especially if the report is complex or has unusual/special features?
Thanks.

we use source safe.  I use version numbers, and comments in source safe to document changes.  Unfortunately, since CR is stored as a binary, source safe doesn't display changes, just that they are different.  Also, our changes are initiated by a work order system, and I include notes in the resolution there as well as the number in the check in part of source safe.

This way, hopefully, there is document that says what I should change and why, and a version number and notes about what I did change, and a way to cross reference and hopefully determine when and why a version is in source safe.

Thanks. We use SVN here at work which is similar to Source Safe. I've been looking at using that for reports, but as you say, CR reports are binary so you can't see the changes, but at least you can note the changes when you check it in.

I've also considered adding technical comments to a text object in a suppressed header or footer to document any special features on the report - they could be visible to the CR developer but not anyone who runs the report.
