I have a report that has a GH1 with several rows of Details for each group. The report is a continuous display showing the GH1 and Details one after the other. In some cases, the GH1 is listed at the bottom of the page, and the Details start on the following page.

Is there a way in the Section Expert to move the GH1 to the next page if there aren't any Detail records below it? I know how to show all GH1's and Details on their own page in the Section Expert, but I would rather have the report continuous.

Thanks for your help.

you can try
under group expert
select group 1
click on options
click on options tab
mark 'Keep group together' as TRUE

the keep group together will move it onto the next page if it can keep the entire grouping together, otherwise it will still break it as usual.

otherwise you have to try and use a variable formula field that 'counts' the rows inclduing headers, assigning a height value to each part, reset it on page change and do a page conditonal break where you want it if the height sum meets a certain condition and your header is falling in the height. Gets pretty messy but people have done it.

I spent about a half hour looking in the Section Expert thinking it's got to be there. I guess not..........

Thanks for solving my problem.

It's a pity Crystal does not have anything to handle "widow" and "orphan" records. I have managed to get round this by creating another GH section. In the section expert check "Keep Together" so it does not print across a page break. Check "Underlay following sections" and ensure it is the first GH section. Leave this section entirely blank and make it large enough to fit the following GH section with the header details, plus one (or two) detail sections. This will cause the "real" GH and first detail line to print over the "dummy" section, and it will stay on the same page.
