I have the following in a report
- 1 field from one MS SQL 2005 table
- SQL Client ODBC
- Table contains about 18,000 records
- Crystal 10
- 1 GB ram
- 32 GB HD space on 64 GB Drive

When the report is run Accessing Database completes in the expected time, but on Reading Records it is retrieving 10 records per second? It's taking some 15 minutes to run the report on a single field. And the same call in a SQL Query is 2 seconds.

What could cause this, or better, any ideas on how to troubleshoot.

Thanks

Tim

We have found the enemy and it is us.

Tried the same report on a different machine, what took 15 minutes on the first machine took under a second on the other machine. The tip off was that the Accessing Database was exactly the same on both machines so that eliminated the Network, but the Reading Records, that was were the extreme time difference was.

It seems like hardware is the issue.

Hmmm, correction. Network is NOT eliminated. Once SQL server has completed it's work and BEGINS returning records then it changes to Reading Records, but is still pulling over the Network.

Hence, running the report on the machine with the SQL server on it took under 1 second for Reading Records while Reading Records over the Network is taking 15 minutes.

Still hardware/network though...
