hi,

I have two detail portions in my report say Detail 1 and Detail 2

Detail section1  has 5 items to be printed one after the other say in a seq order 1, 2...5. The format  should be

“Name1 (text object ): Item1 (table.field1)

Name 2(text object ): Item2 (table.field2)

.

.

.

Name5: (text object ): Item5 (table.field5)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------“

and a thick border line after all the items in detail section1 got displayed. then follows Detail Section2.

the problem is, in detail 1 all the 5 items may not be there. I did suppress them  if any item is not available. though the item is suppress the space allotted is blank…  Say Item 3 is not there... then there is an extra line space between item1 and item2.

Similarly when item4 & 5 are not there they get supressed in the report output. But, there are 2 extra line spaces (spaces allotted for item 4 & 5) between Item3 and the border line… how to eliminate the extra space?

Please help me out. I am new to crystal reports…

the easiest solution that comes to mind is to put each 'line' into it's own detail section, then if it doesn't exist/has been suppressed, you can suppress the detail section.  I would put the thick border line would go it's own section as well so that it is always displayed.

thansk much for your response!!

but those 5 items and border belong to the one order..and one order  can not be split across pages...  is there any way we can keep all the 4 details not to split across pages..? i see a "keep together" option which is specific to one detail portion..

please suggest.

make a group based on the order, and select keep together there, so that you have something like

gh
d1
d2
d3
d4
d5
d6 (border line)
gf

hopefully this is clearer.
