	What if I wanted to place it in the group footer, to get a count of how many for each inmate?

	Not sure. You mean you have to count every instance per inmate where there is an opening record of 'HELP' and no closing record of 'Stop'?

	The RT was to count inmates, To count instances per inmate try this to see if it works for you: FOrmula as "InmateOpenCount" if field1='Help' then 1 else if Field2= 'Stop' then -1 else 0 Sum this formula field at the Group inmate level (and place on the group inmate footer.
