Hi people,

I'm using Crystal Reports 11

recently moved from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11

when running exactly the same reports on each version of oracle, oracle 11 take approx 3 minutes, and oracle 10g takes approx 3 seconds.

i've got my database guy to look at what's taking all the time in oracle 11, and it seems to be something that crystal does to verify the tables before selecting its data, has anyone come across this before.

the sql captured from the database is as follows

incidentally, pressing the verify database button within crystal reports takes minutes when done against oracle 11, and seconds against oracle 10g

select a.owner, a.object_name, INSTR(a.object_type, 'PROC'), '1'
from sys.all_objects a
where a.object_type IN ('FUNCTION','PROCEDURE') and a.status = 'VALID' and a.owner like USER escape'\' and a.object_name like'CPARTY'escape'\' union all
select c.owner, c.synonym_name, INSTR(a.object_type, 'PROC'), '1'
from sys.all_objects a, sys.all_synonyms c
where c.table_owner = a.owner and c.table_name = a.object_name and a.object_type IN ('FUNCTION','PROCEDURE') and a.status = 'VALID' and c.owner like USER escape'\' and c.synonym_name like'CPARTY'escape'\'

In your report, do you have "Verify on First Refresh" turned on?  (It's on the database menu.)  If so, you may want to try turning it off.  The danger in that is that if the structure of the tables you're using ever changes - including field widths, indexes, etc. then your report will probably fail until you do a Verify Database and save it.

thanks for the reply hilfy

i've gave your suggestion a go and it makes no difference, i did find this discussion on the web, so we're patching our database at the moment to see if that helps

well, it ends up i had to, remove all tables, then add them again and replace all fields and groups in the report that were deleted in the process.

think crystal reports is trying to be too smart for its own good these days.
