Topic: Scheduling from batch Posted: 04 Jan 2010 at 1:09am |
Hi Experts,
Can anyone advice how to schedule a crystal report from batch file? Here is the scenario –
1. A report (Rpt1) developed in Crystal Report 10. Now we want to schedule that report with parameter Report Date = Sys Date only when a particular excel file (i.e Excl1.xls) is available in specific folder on E Drive (E:\KeyFold).
2. To automate the entire process we have introduced a batch file and schedule it with windows scheduler. Now, I want to include above activity mentioned against point 1 in that batch.
Any idea how to do that? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

You can't schedule from a batch file - there's no way to access the properties that you need from a command prompt.
However, you could write a small .NET or Java program using the Crystal SDK that would set the login and parameters, run the report, and export it to whatever format you need. Your .bat file could then run that program to generate the report.

Have you checked here:
This is a good list of what's available. I haven't used any of them, so I can't recommend anything specific, though.
Also, if you have the Developer version of Crystal, I believe it includes a 5 concurrent user license for Crystal Server which you can use to schedule reports.

Hilfy,
Thanks for your reply. Well, as per policy we can't use any freeware ..seems need to introduce a Windows service using Crystal SDK which will take care of scheduling requirement.
One more query. Is Crystal SDK come with standard installation pkg or need to get it seperately?
Regards,
Das.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think that it only comes with the Developer version. However, it comes with Visual Studio. So if you're going to write the service using .NET, you don't need anything else. If you're going to write it in Java, Delphi, or regular VB (not VB.Net), I believe you'll have to upgrade your license.
