Topic: Field Contains a Number
Posted: 04 Jan 2010 at 5:37am
Hi,
How do I add a selection criteria to eliminate items within the field which contain a number?
I have a list containing text and numbers, I only want to see the text strings, not the strigns which contain a number.
Thanks

Hey Roxane,
Is it 1 long data field with both text and numbers and you want to filter out the numbers out of that 1 data field ?
or is it a record with multiple field and you only want to display the records where there is no field with numbers
like
case 1
field filled with somthing like this "record number 12 going to record number13" and you want to see "record number going to record numer"
or
case2
field1 field 2 field3
record number 12
going to record
number 13 .
and you only want to display record 2 as that one doesn't have numbers

Hey roxane,
What you could do (altho it's not the best solution it's the only thing i can come up with now)
on the detail section-expert(right click on the detail ) you select surpress (first option with the possibility to add a formula)
and you add as formula
numerictext ({your.list}) = true
i think you can also do this in the record section more early in the report
Greetings
Adam

Thanks,
Thies does not seem to work on strings which also contain symbols, eg 215/1 does not supress?

Hey Roxane,
Nope that doesn't work on mixed fields.
i didn't include that as it wasn't in your list
I can't come up with a solution for mixed stuff i'm afraid.
i think you could play a bit with the VAL command but can't get it working myself here on a short time...
Maybe one of the more experianced users can answer this better.
