hi could someone kindly give me some pointers please.

i have the results from 8 people who were asked a series of questions. each answer was from 1-5.

what i need is a stacked bar graph. 1 bar for each question with the total for each question determining the height. but what i cant do is to make the bar show how many of each answer number there was e.g.

q1 answers - 5 5 4 2 2 2 1 1 . total bar height 22 made up of 5 segments showing that there were 2 1's etc.

data is stored in access.

thanks for any help.

in your DB do you have one column per question which has the value from the person:

Person Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4
abc 1 2 1 4
efg 2 2 3 1

Or a column identifying the question and another identfying the answer:
Person Question Answer
abc 1 1
abc 2 2
abc 3 1
abc 4 4
Efg 1 2
Efg 2 2
Efg 3 3
Efg 4 1

hi

thanks for responding. In my access dbase i have the data as in your first example.

though in my trials to find a solution i have it in excel as the first, but also additional fields such as countIF for each answer number which returns how many of each answer i get.

i actuall dont need to track the people at all, it is the answers, and how many of each answer i get, how many 1's 2's etc.

best regards

ian

Hmmm,

Was hoping it was the second. It is easier. In the Chart Expert you would set to On Change Of first as Question field and Second as Answer Field. Then you can set the Show Values as either a count of Person or a SUM of Answer depeding on which way you want to look a the data.

What does the source data look like and are you married to the stacked bar chart or open to alternatives?
