Some of our dropdown lists have as many as 150,000 items in them.  So a year ago we change the registry in Crystal Reports so that it would list more than 1000 in the drop down lists. We found how to do it on the Internet: http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/goldencg/vpost?id=1928627 That worked but now a year later we had to reset the registry and we can see the full 1000 +  list again on the left selection window but when we try to move more than 1000 items to the right selection window we are getting a browser error. The error is:

"STOP RUNNING THIS SCRIPT?

A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly.  If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive.

YES / NO "

If we click on NO it just keeps giving us the message every 2 or 3 minutes. If we click on YES we get a no data found error. We have many reports that need to see more than 1000 items in the drop down list.

Does anyone know a better  solution to adding more than 1000 to the dropdown list than changing the registry, or is there a web page or FAQ page somewhere that I could go to to resolve this new browser error issue?

I don't know, as I no longer use the Crystal parameter page.  Which is my solution to your issue...build your own parameter input screens and then you don't have the limits that Crystal imposes.

There are some drawbacks though. 1) I am assuming that you are getting your data via a stored proc or pushing from a app. 2) you can't use the IN function for your parameters.

Hopefully this can guide you to a solution that works for you.  If you are stuck using the Crystal parameters, then obviously my solution won't work.

On another note...over 1000 selections, what a tedious report to run those must be.

We do run Crystal Reports on an Application so we are stuck with the dropdowns.  Worked perfect last year when we first changed the registery but for some reason we are getting a buffer overload or something that makes the browser time out this year ??? Thanks for trying to help.  I will keep looking.  Has to be a solution. Cv in Seattle

I would like to create a parameter input screen, like a form with field captions.  It would make parameter input much more user friendly.  How do I do that?  I'm using Crystal 8.5, if that makes a difference.

build the parameter screens in your application and then either a) generate the dataset in your application and pass it to the report or b) pass the parameters to the application and let it pull the dataset.  Either way, there is the coding of the parameter screens, but it gives you control over the display of the data.
