hi,

i had to install crystal on some machines around the office with the reports i made.
is there a way that i can stop people being able to change the report or lock crystal??
there are different levels of pc literacy and i want to try to save myself headaches incase someone makes changes by accident or something like that!

thanks for any help.

make the report read only.  if they want to change it, and don't know to change the property of the file, Crystal will force the save as a new file.  I don't know of any built in ability in the designer.

There might only be a viewer, but i have never tried to find such as a thing as in my office, the users view the reports through an application, not from teh designer.

Just install the Crystal Reports Viewer.... It allows them to view the reports. But they'll have no way to modify them.... And they wont need to Connect to the database to refresh and grab new data/new parameters. (in other words they wont need a password to connect, it will pull data from the database without it.)

Or, do what Lockwelle suggested and make it read only. Although, i think even as read only they could save it as a different name, then go back and rename the one they created and end up saving over the one you created. so.... still leaves you volnerable (if my assumption is correct, i'm not totally positive about that).
