Hello,

Here is the situation,

There is a report that generates data for different departments for every month usually from first to last day of every month.

It is a legacy report and it has been designed in a way that once you key in the date range for example Jan 01 till Jan 31 and click run report, it runs the report and then a dialog box comes up as"printing department 1" and you click OK on it.

Note : When it says printing, it doesn't really print to a printer but it means Generating report.

The same thing happens again and again

Dialog box comes up as Printing department 2 ------ you enter Ok

Dialog box comes up as Printing department 3 ------ you enter Ok

Dialog box comes up as Printing department 56 ------ you enter Ok

Simultaneously after at about generating 20 departments,a new dialog box comes up asking you to select a location to save the pdf of department 1.

so from now on you get dialog boxes asking you to select a location to save the pdfs of these reports.

This process continues hand on hand with printing department dialog box.

So once printing department 56 completes,i guess you will be at around saving pdf for department 12 or so

The same process goes on and on for all the available 56 departments.

The legacy environment is VB.there is only one rpt file associated with this report and it includes no subreports, i guess some control is passed through VB because of which it is opening a  dialog box to save pdfs of these reports for each individual department.

The current environment is Java,we have a JRC using Crystal viewer to generate these reports. We have already migrated this rpt from 7 (legacy report was developed in Crystal 7) to 10.

Is there any way that we can enable these save dialog boxes coming up again and again.

Is there any way to design such report in Crystal 10 such that these save dialog boxes come up after generating report for every department.

The main purpose is user wants pdfs of individual departments. We have 56 individual reports but user doesn't want to key in date range 56 times to run these individual 56 .rpt files and wants  a solution through which he can have pdfs of 56 departments.

Please respond ASAP.

Thanks
Nammu

have your app call the report.  key the date in to your app and have the app pass it to the report.

What would be the result if app calls the result?

The key here is, I need the pdfs of all departments generating separately by entering the date range just once.

Please advise

call the multiple reports, you have multiple reports...right, from an app.  This way the user only enters the date once.  if you need the report to be saved, the user can save it...you didn't want to have them to enter the date 29 times.

The result, I would bet is a report viewer displayed...but it depends on how you set up your app.  I don't know if you can get a report to go straight to PDF or if you can programatically save it...our app doesn't, but we don't want it to...so it may be possible.

You will need to do some research
