Quote deswar Replybullet Topic: Vertical text adjacent to report data
     Posted: 28 May 2009 at 7:12am
Hi,

I wanted to display vertical text adjacent to the report data. Vertical text should not be repeated for each row or it should not be at Footer section. Vertical Text should be spaning between Details and Report Footer sections.

I tried adding an extra column to the DataTable (that I am binding to the report) and made extra column as a grouping field. Then I rotated the grouping column to 90 degrees. When I ran the report, the text is shown vertically, but it is getting repeated for each row in the report (Though the text in the grouping field is same for all the rows.)

                                     column1 column2 column3 column4
                                     data0      data1      data2       data3
                                     data4      data5      data6       data7
Vertical Text here          data8      data9      data8       data6
                                     data1      data2      data1       data3
                                     data1      data2      data1       data3

Can some one please help me in this?

Thanks in advance.

Try this right click the group text
then format field,
then go to the Common Tab in format editor
then check suppress if  duplicated box

Yeah, text is not repeating now, thanks for that :)
But there is another problem :(
Since, length of the text is big, I increased the width of the group text. This is affecting the gap between each row.
Like this....

                                    column1 column2 column3 column4
                                     data0      data1      data2       data3

Vertical Text here

                                     data4      data5      data6       data7

                                     data8      data9      data8       data6

                                     data1      data2      data1       data3

                                     data1      data2      data1       data3

If I don't increase the width of the group text and set the property CanGrow = True, its creating a big gap between first two rows and the group text is not displayed completely.
Like this....

                                   column1 column2 column3 column4
                                     data0      data1      data2       data3

Vertical Text here

                                     data4      data5      data6       data7
                                     data8      data9      data8       data6
                                     data1      data2      data1       data3
                                     data1      data2      data1       data3

There is not much of a way around this. The text is not going to span more than one row so it will always expand the section that it is being displayed on leaving gaps like you show above. The only way around this I can think of might be to set a row count and then create a formula field that  would only display one letter of the vertical text that was equivalent to the row count. Of course you would have to always have enough rows to spell out your vertical text or it would just truncate on the last row.

Idea was good, but it doesn't serve my purpose, I need to display complete text in a single line and there are chances of no rows also!
