Quote Chrissy Replybullet Topic: Report from the Report
     Posted: 01 Apr 2009 at 8:18am
I have a crystal report (v8.5) that has two very detailed groups.  It is a financial report that groups multiple account ranges to a specific group name.  One of the groups has about 150 different "named groups" with specific mapping.

I am wondering... is there a way to "print" the contents of the groupings?

The accountants like to occasionally go over the account mappings in the report, and I have not found a way to get this info out.

Can anyone help??

Thanks!

So you are looking to get a list of "specific account ranges" that are associated to each specific "Mapped Group"?

How is this defined in your original report? Is there a table that has this relationship or is there a formula field that is looking at the "specific account" and then assigning a group name for the grouping?

I created the group on the account number field grouped "in a specified order".  Then under the "specified order" tab, I have named groups that have certain account ranges for instance...

grouped name is "Expenses" and the criteria is where account number is Like "50*" OR account number is equal to "800100".

Does that help clarify?

So they want a report that says something like:
EXPENSES
    Account#: 50112
    Account#: 503149
    Account#: 800100
SALES
    Account#: XYZ
    Account#: ABC
YADA

You can use the existing data, create a formula field to "Name" each account # into a group using the exact same criteria you used for the grouping you did formulatically
Like
if table.account#field="800100" or table.account#field like "50*" then "EXPENSES" else if table.account#field="ABC" then "SALES" else if ...
From there Create a group on this formula field
then if you want create a second group on the Account# and suppress and details if needed (to remove duplications based on your data)
Is this what you are looking for?

Essentially that is what I am looking for, but I wanted to avoid having to "recreate" the mappings.  It would take days and a very very large "if"...  There are over 150 group names within my group, and within each group name are multiple account #'s and ranges...

i was just thinking there might be some sort of function within Crystal that would allow you to print out the details of your groups.

Can you just recreate your existing report (save as) and tweak it to give them the listings by removing items and suppressing duplications?
Sounds like the architecture and coding is all there, just need to adjust it some. Also you won't have to worry about changing the coding and making a mistake as to where an account# falls into a category...

You gave me some ideas to try...  I will have to play around with it a little and see if there is an easy solution.

Thanks for all your tips.
