Hi guys, can someone please help.  Can someone actuall describe how you use the drill down in crystal reports?

I have got 2 reports - one is sort of working , the other isn't. Both look at the same data (although not the same table).  Anyway, I need help on the magnifying glass in the group tree.  As far as I was aware the glass will appear if you have highlighted a section underneath as hide drilldown Ok.  Ideally what i want is to click on a section and it show all that is underneath it hierarchically.  Sometimes the magnify glass is on the group tree othertimes it is not and just the plus sign is there, when this happens I cant open up a new section like with the magnifying glass.   Can someone please explain the procedure for using the drill down and what the report object means, I input the group name header object name as the first thing to appear but then my crosstab also appears. Arrghh !!!

Can anyone shed some light please?

Hi Biggy,
What crystal version are you using?
Not sure about the group tree issue and the magnifying glass. My experience is generally the "tree" is used for navigating to a specific part of the report rather than actually drilling down. Usually drill down occurs by double clicking on the field in the preview section of the report.
As far as being able to Drill down and see everything  in that drill down this depends on how many groups you have set up, if they are set to Hide drill down or no drill down.

You can also use conditions on this to further change what appears or not on drill down. The syntax used is "drilldowngrouplevel = < > number" like
drilldowngrouplevel=0 or drilldowngrouplevel<1 or drilldowngrouplevel>2
This conditionally suppresses sections so that, say you have a 3 group headers but when you drill down on on the first group you still want all 3 sections under that group to show without having to further drill down.

When you open a report it is at level 0.
When you drill down once regardless of the group level (GH1, GH2, GH3) it is =1, etc.
Hope this helps some.
