Hello! We have bought software  that uses crystal report files, for A4 papers, and small signs etc..

I wanted to edit one of the report-files to design it to my needs, so i stole the rpt file from the program-folder and opened it up in my computer and visualstudio 2008..

The problem is that when i have changed the file and save it, the first thing i noticed is that the file ive created is only 32kb, and the originalfile is 72kb.. and the program could not use the report.. the change of the filesize even occur if i only open it up and "save as" directly even if dont change anything..

what is the problem? the files opens fine in vs2008 and the design is exactly the same as when i print it..

What version of Crystal does the original application use?  I suspect that it's an earlier version so that when you edit the report and save it, it upgrades the version of the .rpt file to one that doesn't work with your software.

hello and thanks for the answer!

Yes i also suspect that its a version-number-error! I use VS2008, but is there someway to make it compatible with older versions?

Unfortunately, no.  VS 2008 uses Crystal 10 and there is no backward compatibility.
