I am trying to return numerical values such as sum({StudPerformance.Score}) in crystal report formula but am getting the error

A string is required here. Error in File C:\DOCUME~1\ROOPAN~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Tick5 {5BEF0273-EA00-4D0D-9D3C-3FB5EC0C177B}.rpt: Error in formula . ' ' A string is required here.

I am unable to convert sum value to text by using
ToText(sum({StudPerformance.Score}) ) as it is returning an error.
Could any one suggest
Thank you,

The error is generally associated with If-Then statements in a formula where one test returns a number and the other test returns true. Thus, you are two different data types being returned by a single formula. This causes an error. Are you using this in a formula? If so, please list the entire formula here so we can review it.
