Is there a way to have records sort conditionally through a formula? I have several groupings but if there is no grouping I need to records to sort a certain way however because of the groups they wont? I've tried through the sort expert but it still won't sort?

Hi,
Can you post a bit more details?...As you have several groups the default sort is ascending ,and when you use record sort expert records are sorted within the respective groups...

Let us kno what you are trying to achieve, please post some sample data.

cheers

hello,
i have a similar problem:
i have data of customers, shipments and invoices.
i have shipment id and invoice amount in the details section,
and a group by customer name containing sum of invoices amounts.

i have formulas suppressing the relevant sections so i can display shipments and customers data alternatively.

i want to be able to sort the customer records by descending sum of invoices amounts (which works fine) and to sort the shipment records only by descending invoices amounts (which isn't working- it is sorted by the groups of customers names and within it by invoices amounts.

is there a way to make 2 different sorts to 2 different sections?

thanks,
Raz.

Hi,

Create a second group based on ShipmentID ,the  Insert summary sum of invoice amount for that group ,then go to group sort expert,Select the ShipmentID Group ,select ALL for this group sort then select  desceinding invoice Amount.

Once done suppress groupheasder 2 and footer 2..... let me know if this is what you want,Also please post some sample data and required output.

Cheers

hi rahul,

my report can be downloaded from here:
http://www.2shared.com/file/4146595/6373bca0/Report6.html
As you will see when shipment is selected, it is being sorted by customers and then by amount.
I want it to be sorted by amount only.

no way of uploading a file straight into the forum?

Thanks,
Raz.
