Topic: Suppress records Posted: 14 Aug 2008 at 2:49am
I have got a complex situation whereby i need to make 3 detail sections visible based on parameter fields chosen. My records set is coming through the use of Stored Proc from sybase sql. My parameter fields are Order, Executions and Allocations. My detail section is suppressed based on the formual as such: The Section expert for the Orders is suppressed based on parameter chosen which is called Level if ({?Level} = "Order") then false else true
and then the columns are also suppressed based on a formula as below:
OrderId = Previous(OrderId)
then don't show the details...which means if the field is duplicated then don't show...this works perfectly fine.
Is there any other way i can add a further suppress formula like below:
AllocationId = OrderId ....then don't show the details or something...basically i want my detail section to be able to hide some records based in the formula....
This is quite complex and i have tried if else statement and still trying but not getting anywhere...

It looks to me like you're going about it the right way. There is probably a way to optimize the formulas if I had the report in front of me and could review everything, but what you're doing is the expected practice.
However, you mention that you tried 'if else' but not getting anywhere. I don't see the details of that in your post so I can't comment on why it would/wouldn't be working.

I managed to figure this out at the end. I adjusted my stored proc to delete the duplicate records based on a hardcoded parameter value being Order....i was then able to suppress the records if the parameter chosen is allocations...so tht the details section fields had the suppress formula as such :
AllocId = OrderTsId
My report will need to call the stored proc everytime so it worked out fine.
