Hi, I have a cross-tab report where I show for each employee on which project he has been working how many hours each day of a month. Each entry is accompanied by a comment of various length (up to 160 characters) describing the work accomplished.

                                                      Employee 1   Employee 2     ...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 1     Project 1    comment     hours            hours

Day 2     Project 2    comment     hours            hours

Day 3     Project 1    comment                          hours

Day 3     Project 3    comment     hours

Day 4     Project 2    comment     hours            hours

Day 4     Project 3    comment                          hours

Day 4     Project 4    comment     hours            hours

   ....

Total

If I set the width of the ‘comment’ field to the possible maximum of 160 chars, the report stretches too wide and becomes ugly, especially since many of the comments are only some 20 chars long.

The ‘Can Grow’ function in the field format editor is unfortunately disabled.

Is there some trick I could use resulting in a similar effect as the ‘Can Grow’ function?

How do I do that? Is it possible at all?

Could anybody help, please?

Many thanks in advance.

Not sure if this helps, but I would  rotate the column labels (Employee1, Employee2..) 90 degrees.  That will make those columns much thinner giving you more room for the comments field.

Thank you, but I already have - had to - we are talking 15+ employees and the paper orientation needs to be 'Portrait'. I'm already using font size 7.
